Methods and results: We treated stationary-phase E. coli MG1655 with a DNA-damaging fluoroquinolone and co-cultured the cells with probiotic E. coli Nissle following antibiotic removal. We found that E. coli Nissle reduced the survival of fluoroquinolone persisters and their progeny by over three orders of magnitude within 24 h.
Dec 30, 2022 · Background Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) is a probiotic bacterium used to treat various gastrointestinal diseases. EcN is increasingly being used as a chassis for the engineering of advanced microbiome therapeutics. To aid in future engineering efforts, our aim was to construct an updated metabolic model of EcN with extended secondary metabolite representation. Results An updated high
Jan 1, 2017 · Escherichia coli strain Nissle 1917 (EcN) is a remarkable probiotic bacterium, first described by Alfred Nissle in 1916/17. As the active component of Mutaflor, EcN has been well researched over decades but detailed mechanisms by which EcN confers its probiotic effects are still elusive. EcN however, has a unique profile concerning fitness Jun 8, 2023 · Pretreatment with E. coli Nissle 1917 yielded mRNA expression of ACE2 and SLC6A19 in the cecum and levels of Gly, Ser, Gln, and Trp in the serum similar to that of uninfected chicks (P < 0.05). Additionally, E. coli Nissle 1917 altered cecum microbiota composition and enriched the abundance of E. coli, Lactobacillales, and Lachnospiraceae. Aug 1, 2022 · Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) naturally synthesizes and secrets heparosan as its capsular polysaccharides. In this study, we described the metabolic engineering of EcN to enhance heparosan production by optimizing the biosynthesis of precursors UDP-GlcA and UDP-GlcNAc and the expression of heparosan synthase.
Jun 16, 2023 · Engineering E. coli Nissle 1917 to reset the balance of bile salts in CDI, by converting the conjugated bile salts to the unconjugated forms in the intestine, substantially reduced CDI in mice 135.
Dec 10, 2023 · Bioengineered probiotics enable new opportunities to improve cancer treatment strategies due to their tumor-colonizing capabilities. Here, we will describe the development of a probiotic E. coli Nissle 1917 platform encoding a synchronized lysis mechanism for the E.coli Nissle 1917 (DSM 6601)(EcN) is the active compound of a microbial drug for use in humans (Mutaflor TM ), commercially available in Central Europe for nearly 90 years. This E. coli strain of
Mar 1, 2023 · Lodinová-Zádniková R, Sonnenborn U. Effect of preventive administration of a nonpathogenic Escherichia coli strain on the colonization of the intestine with microbial pathogens in newborn infants. Biol Neonate. 1997;71 (4):224-232. The nonpathogenic strain E coli Nissle 1917 appears to be a safe probiotic for treating ulcerative colitis

May 29, 2018 · Shiga toxin (Stx) producing E. coli (STEC) such as Enterohemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC) are the major cause of foodborne illness in humans. In vitro studies showed the probiotic Escherichia coli strain Nissle 1917 (EcN) to efficiently inhibit the production of Stx. Life threatening EHEC strains as for example the serotype O104:H4, responsible for the great outbreak in 2011 in Germany, evolutionary

Oct 11, 2019 · The contents of the 1 mL recommended dose of Symbioflor 2 yielded an arithmetic mean of 5.0 log 10 MPN E. coli (95% CI 4.6–5.2), and the geometric mean is 4.8 log 10 MPN E. coli (95% CI 4.6–4.9). A comparison of products with their respective product labels is shown in Figure 1. E. coli numbers in both products were approximately 2 orders Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 (EcN) is probably the most intensively investigated bacterial strain today [1]. Despite the fact that the EcN strain is widely used as a probiotic, a lot of questions remain. Hence, we decided to dive deep into the characterization of EcN. Our goal was to find out more about EcN itself and to provide crucial
It is protective against many forms of bad E. coli and other bad bacteria that may attack the gut. Nissle 1917 is a natural colonizer. When introduced into the gut it rapidly regulates bowel movements, stimulates defence systems, reduces gut inflammation, repairs leaky gut conditions, displaces and kills many forms of bad bacteria and improves

Apr 27, 2022 · An engineered E. coli Nissle 1917 that can be targeted to colonize tumors has also been published recently. It can convert the metabolic waste produced by tumors into L-arginine that enhances the anti-tumor immune response, and can effectively enhance the therapeutic effect of programmed cell death protein-1 and its ligand inhibitors on mouse .
